MS Computing and Data Sciences

MS Computing and Data Sciences is a postgraduate degree in computing and Data Sciences, normally two years, combining advanced coursework with a research thesis.

Entry requirements

Entry requires a 16-year qualification — a four-year bachelor’s, or a two-year bachelor’s followed by a two-year master’s — normally with a minimum CGPA of around 2.5 out of 4.0. Most institutions require the GAT (General) or an accepted institutional equivalent, and some departments add a subject test or interview.

Accreditation

Computing programmes may hold National Computing Education Accreditation Council accreditation, which is the programme-level quality check in this field. Note that a computing degree is not an engineering degree: only programmes titled and accredited as computer or software engineering lead to PEC registration.

What it leads to

A research-oriented master’s is the normal prerequisite for doctoral study and is the minimum qualification for university lecturing in Pakistan. In industry it tends to matter most where the role is genuinely technical; elsewhere, demonstrated project experience often weighs as heavily as the qualification itself. Where a programme offers both a thesis and a coursework-only route, the thesis route is the safer choice if doctoral study is a possibility.
