BSc (Honours) Politics and Economics

BSc (Honours) Politics and Economics is a four-year interdisciplinary joint major examining the relationship between political systems and economies — how institutions shape markets, and how economic conditions shape politics. It suits students interested in public policy, governance and political economy rather than either discipline in isolation.

What You’ll Study

Around 130 credit hours combining political science (political theory, comparative politics, international relations, governance) with economics (micro, macro, econometrics, development economics). The distinctive contribution is political economy: understanding why economically sensible policies often fail politically, which is directly relevant to Pakistan’s policy environment.

Career Scope in Pakistan

Graduates work in public policy and government, development organisations and donor agencies, think tanks and research institutes, journalism and political analysis, diplomacy and the civil service, and the regulatory and public-affairs functions of large firms. The degree is a common preparation route for CSS examinations and for graduate study in public policy, international relations or development.

Employability is strongest for graduates who develop concrete analytical skills — econometrics, data handling, policy writing — alongside the theoretical grounding, since these are what distinguish candidates for research and analyst positions.

Admission Requirements

Intermediate or A-Levels (or an IBCC-certified equivalent), plus the admission test used by the university concerned — LUMS runs its own SAT-style paper-based test and also accepts SAT scores.
