BSc (Honours) Anthropology and Sociology is a four-year undergraduate degree studying human societies, cultures and social structures — how communities organise themselves, and how social change actually happens. It combines theoretical grounding with the qualitative and quantitative methods used in social research.

What You’ll Study

Around 130 credit hours. Coursework covers sociological and anthropological theory, ethnographic and qualitative research methods, quantitative social research and statistics, and specialised areas such as gender, urban studies, religion, kinship, development and migration. Fieldwork and ethnographic training are usually central, and are the degree’s most distinctive practical skill.

Career Scope in Pakistan

The development sector is the largest employer: NGOs, donor agencies and international organisations need people who can design and run field research, conduct monitoring and evaluation, and produce credible social impact assessments. Other paths include public policy, market and consumer research, human resources and organisational roles, journalism, and academia.

Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) skills in particular are consistently in demand across Pakistan’s development sector, and graduates who build strong mixed-methods research capability tend to find the clearest career route.

Admission Requirements

Intermediate or A-Levels (or an IBCC-certified equivalent), plus the admission test used by the university concerned — LUMS runs its own SAT-style paper-based test and also accepts SAT scores. Humanities and social science programmes generally weight writing and critical-reasoning ability heavily. Check each university’s admissions page for the current cycle.
