BS Biology is a four-year undergraduate degree covering the modern theoretical and experimental study of living systems — from molecular and cell biology through genetics, physiology and ecology. It is the standard foundation for careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, healthcare-adjacent industries and academia.

What You’ll Study

A typical programme runs around 130 credit hours across eight semesters. Core coursework covers cell and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology and evolutionary biology, supported by substantial laboratory work. Later semesters allow specialisation toward molecular biology, immunology, neuroscience or computational biology, usually with a final-year research project. Research-intensive departments increasingly pair wet-lab training with data analysis skills, which materially improves graduate employability.

Career Scope in Pakistan

Biology graduates work in pharmaceutical and biotech companies, diagnostic and clinical laboratories, food and agricultural research, environmental consultancy, and public-health organisations. A large share continue to postgraduate study, since research and academic roles generally require at least an MS. The degree is also a common route into allied health fields and into international graduate programmes, where Pakistani biology graduates from research-active departments compete well.

It is worth being realistic: pure-biology roles at the bachelor’s level are more limited than in fields like computer science, and the strongest outcomes usually come from either specialising further or combining biology with quantitative and laboratory skills that industry actively hires for.

Admission Requirements

Intermediate (FSc/ICS) or A-Levels with the relevant science subjects, plus the admission test used by the university you are applying to — LUMS runs its own SAT-style paper-based test and also accepts SAT scores, while other universities use NET, NAT or their own entry tests. Check each university’s admissions page for the current cycle.
