Engineering Technology vs. Engineering

This distinction is the most important thing to understand before enrolling. A Bachelor of Engineering Technology is a four-year applied degree oriented toward implementation, operation, maintenance and testing, whereas a BSc/BS engineering degree is oriented toward design and analysis with heavier mathematics and theory. The two are treated differently by the Pakistan Engineering Council, and registration pathways differ — engineering technology graduates are generally registered separately from engineers, where registration applies at all. Confirm the current position with PEC and the university before choosing between them, since it affects which professional roles are open to you.

What You’ll Study

Coursework combines the technical fundamentals of the discipline with heavy practical, laboratory and workshop content, plus applied project work. The emphasis throughout is on being able to do the work rather than derive the theory behind it.

Graduates work in electronics manufacturing and assembly, industrial instrumentation and calibration, equipment maintenance and repair, automation and control support, and technical service roles.

Worth noting: industrial instrumentation and calibration is a steady route, since process industries require regular calibration and maintenance of measurement and control equipment as a compliance obligation.

Admission Requirements

FSc Pre-Engineering or an equivalent qualification, plus the engineering entrance test used by the university. Merit combines intermediate results with test performance.
