About

Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) is a private engineering university in Karachi offering engineering, computing, business and applied sciences programmes. It is one of the larger private engineering institutions in Sindh.

Degree Programs

Teaching is organised into faculties covering electrical and computer engineering, computing and applied sciences, civil engineering and architecture, and business and management sciences.

The catalogue is unusually broad for an engineering university and notably current in its computing provision. Alongside conventional electrical, electronic, computer, civil, biomedical and telecommunication engineering, it offers degrees in areas many Pakistani universities have not yet added — internet of things, cloud computing, computer network and security, information security engineering, AI security and cyber intelligence, and robotics and intelligent machines. Business programmes include entrepreneurship and digital technology management, and applied sciences include biotechnology, bioinformatics, biomedical sciences, medical technology and clinical psychology.

SSUET also runs Bachelor of Engineering Technology programmes in civil, computer, electrical and electronics disciplines. These are a distinct qualification stream from engineering degrees and are treated differently by the Pakistan Engineering Council, so confirm the registration implications before choosing between them.

Postgraduate provision covers master’s degrees across engineering and computing, including data engineering and information management and a climate change and environmental informatics programme, with doctoral programmes in biomedical engineering, computer engineering, electronics engineering and mathematics.

This university offers 10 engineering programmes. PEC accreditation is granted to a specific programme at a specific university — a degree accredited elsewhere is not automatically accredited here — so confirm the status of your chosen programme directly with the Pakistan Engineering Council before enrolling.

History and Identity

The university was established in 1993 under the auspices of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association of Pakistan, and takes its name from Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the nineteenth-century reformer whose Aligarh Movement promoted modern scientific education among the Muslims of the subcontinent. The university describes itself as spiritually associated with Aligarh Muslim University, and that lineage is central to its institutional identity rather than incidental to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology recognized by HEC?

Yes. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan lists Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology as a recognised institution, which means its degrees can be attested by the HEC and are accepted for further study and public-sector employment. Recognition applies to the institution; individual programmes may additionally require accreditation from a professional council.

Is Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology private or government?

Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology is a private-sector institution. Private institutions set their own fee schedules rather than following a government scale, so ask for the complete per-semester cost across the full degree rather than only the first instalment.

What entry test is required for admission to Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology?

Engineering admission normally requires an entry test — the ECAT in Punjab, an ETEA test in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, or an institutional test elsewhere — alongside HSSC pre-engineering results. Confirm the current requirement on the institution's own admissions page, since criteria and closing dates change each cycle.

Does HEC recognition mean every programme at Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology is accredited?

No. HEC recognition confirms the institution is chartered to award degrees. Individual programmes in regulated fields need separate accreditation — the Pakistan Engineering Council for engineering, PMDC for medicine and dentistry, the Pakistan Bar Council for law, NCEAC for computing. A programme can sit inside a recognised institution without holding that professional accreditation, so check the specific programme before enrolling.

Where is Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology located?
