An MSc in Electronics Engineering is a two-year postgraduate degree specialising in electronic devices, circuits and systems — semiconductors, embedded design, signal processing and instrumentation.

What You’ll Study

Coursework covers advanced electronic circuit design, semiconductor devices, VLSI and integrated circuit design, embedded systems, digital signal processing, RF and microwave electronics, and instrumentation and control.

Career Scope in Pakistan

Graduates work in electronics design and manufacturing, embedded systems and firmware development, telecommunications hardware, industrial instrumentation and automation, defence electronics, scientific instrumentation at research organisations, and university teaching.

Semiconductor and chip design is a growing area attracting increasing investment in Pakistan, and the specialist talent pool is small — which works in favour of qualified graduates. Hardware skills are also globally scarce, making remote and international work a realistic option.

Admission Requirements

A relevant 16-year engineering or science degree, plus the university’s postgraduate admission test and interview.

Choosing where to study

For a research-oriented postgraduate degree, supervisor availability in your intended area matters more than the institution’s general reputation — ask before applying rather than after admission. Where a programme offers both a thesis and a coursework-only route, the thesis route is the safer choice if you may continue to doctoral study.

For engineering programmes, note that Pakistan Engineering Council accreditation applies at undergraduate level and attaches to a specific programme on a specific campus. Postgraduate engineering study does not carry the same accreditation requirement, but PEC registration as an engineer depends on the accredited status of the bachelor’s degree that preceded it.

Evening and weekend programmes are widely available for working students. Where one is offered, confirm that the qualification awarded is identical to the regular-stream degree and is not differentiated on the transcript.
