BS Textile Engineering is a four-year undergraduate degree covering fibre science, yarn and fabric manufacturing, dyeing and finishing, and textile process engineering. It is unusually well aligned with Pakistan’s economy: textiles are the country’s largest export sector and largest manufacturing employer.

What You’ll Study

Coursework covers fibre science and technology, spinning and yarn manufacturing, weaving and knitting technology, textile chemistry, dyeing, printing and finishing, textile testing and quality control, garment manufacturing, and textile process control, typically with substantial mill training.

Career Scope in Pakistan

Graduates work across the textile chain — spinning mills, weaving and knitting units, dyeing and processing plants, garment manufacturing and export houses, textile testing laboratories, and technical roles at machinery and chemical suppliers. Export-oriented units in Faisalabad, Karachi and Lahore are the main employers.

Two areas are worth targeting deliberately. Sustainability and compliance has become commercially important, because international buyers increasingly require environmental and effluent standards that mills must demonstrably meet. And technical textiles — beyond apparel into industrial, medical and protective fabrics — carry higher margins than commodity textile production. Both are areas where a graduate can be more than a general production engineer.

Engineering programmes in Pakistan should be accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council, since PEC registration is expected for professional engineering practice and for many public-sector posts. Confirm the accreditation status of the specific programme and campus with the university and PEC before enrolling.

Admission Requirements

FSc Pre-Engineering or an equivalent qualification with Physics and Mathematics, plus the engineering entrance test used by the university — ECAT in Punjab, or an institutional test elsewhere. Merit normally combines intermediate results with test performance.
