An MSc in Engineering Project Management is a two-year postgraduate degree specialising in delivering engineering and construction projects — scope, schedule, cost, contracts and risk.
What You’ll Study
Coursework covers project planning and scheduling, cost estimation and control, contract management and claims, procurement, risk management, quality management, and project financing and appraisal.
Career Scope in Pakistan
Engineering and construction projects in Pakistan routinely overrun on time and cost, and claims disputes are common — competent project management is therefore directly consequential rather than administrative overhead.
Graduates work in project management for contractors and consultancies, client-side project management, planning and scheduling roles, contract administration and claims, cost control, and PMO functions. Contract and claims capability in particular is scarce and well compensated. Professional certification such as PMP complements the degree and is widely recognised by employers.
Entry requirements
Entry normally requires a relevant bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of around 2.5 out of 4.0, together with the GAT (General) or an institutional equivalent where the university requires one.
One point is worth checking before you enrol. The MSc title is used two different ways in Pakistan: at some institutions it is a legacy two-year master’s following a two-year bachelor’s, and at others it is a taught postgraduate degree following a four-year bachelor’s. The distinction matters because doctoral admission requires an 18-year qualification. Confirm with the university which structure its MSc follows, and whether the degree it awards satisfies that requirement, if you intend to continue to a PhD.
Choosing where to study
For a research-oriented postgraduate degree, supervisor availability in your intended area matters more than the institution’s general reputation — ask before applying rather than after admission. Where a programme offers both a thesis and a coursework-only route, the thesis route is the safer choice if you may continue to doctoral study.
For engineering programmes, note that Pakistan Engineering Council accreditation applies at undergraduate level and attaches to a specific programme on a specific campus. Postgraduate engineering study does not carry the same accreditation requirement, but PEC registration as an engineer depends on the accredited status of the bachelor’s degree that preceded it.
Evening and weekend programmes are widely available for working students. Where one is offered, confirm that the qualification awarded is identical to the regular-stream degree and is not differentiated on the transcript.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does this differ from Construction Management?
They overlap heavily. Engineering project management applies across engineering sectors broadly, while construction management focuses specifically on construction delivery — site operations, construction contracts and building processes. Compare the actual curricula.
