MS Physics is a two-year graduate degree offering advanced training in theoretical and experimental physics, for graduates heading toward doctoral research, national research organisations, or quantitative and technical roles in industry.
What You’ll Study
Advanced coursework in quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, electrodynamics and mathematical physics, with specialised electives in condensed matter, particle physics, photonics and optics, astrophysics or computational physics, alongside research work.
Most MS programmes offer a choice between a thesis track, built around original research and the standard route toward a PhD, and a coursework track that is typically faster and ends with a smaller project. Choose deliberately: the thesis track matters considerably if doctoral study is a possibility.
Career & Research Scope in Pakistan
Pakistan maintains a substantial institutional base for physics research, and national research organisations, laboratories and research-active universities are the principal employers for postgraduate physicists. Applied destinations include the energy and nuclear sectors, telecommunications, optics and electronics, semiconductor and materials work, and instrumentation.
A large share of physics postgraduates also move into computational and quantitative roles — data science, modelling and quantitative analysis — where the mathematical and programming training transfers directly and often pays better than laboratory positions. An MS is the standard prerequisite for doctoral study.
Admission Requirements
A minimum of 16 years of education leading to a degree in a relevant field, plus a graduate admission test (the university’s own test, or GRE where accepted) and often an interview. Check the specific programme page for current requirements and deadlines.

Frequently Asked Questions
What careers does an MS in Physics lead to in Pakistan?
Research positions at national research organisations, laboratories and universities, plus applied roles in energy, telecommunications, optics and electronics, and instrumentation. Many graduates also move into data science and quantitative analysis, where the mathematical training transfers directly.
Do I need a PhD to work in physics research?
An MS is sufficient for many research support and technical roles, but leading independent research and holding permanent university faculty positions generally requires a PhD.
