BS Agriculture is a four-year undergraduate degree covering crop production, soil science, plant protection, animal science and agricultural economics — in the sector that employs the largest share of Pakistan’s workforce and underpins its food security.
What You’ll Study
Coursework covers agronomy and crop production, soil science and fertility, plant breeding and genetics, plant pathology and entomology, horticulture, animal husbandry, agricultural extension, irrigation and water management, and agricultural economics and marketing, with substantial field work.
Career Scope in Pakistan
Agriculture is central to the economy, and the sector’s problems are pressing: water scarcity and irrigation inefficiency, declining soil health, pest and disease pressure, low yields relative to comparable economies, and substantial post-harvest losses.
Graduates work in agricultural research institutes and crop improvement programmes, seed companies and plant breeding, agricultural inputs including fertiliser and crop protection companies, agricultural extension and advisory services, farm management, food processing and agribusiness, rural development programmes, and agricultural banking and credit assessment.
Two areas are worth targeting deliberately. Agricultural technology — precision agriculture, sensing and farm data — is emerging and under-served. And agribusiness and value chain roles, connecting production to processing and market, tend to pay better than field extension work and are where private-sector growth is concentrated.
