About

The University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar is the principal engineering university of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, operating a multi-campus network across the province and offering engineering, architecture and computing programmes from bachelor’s through doctoral level.

Degree Programs

Teaching is organised into four faculties: Civil, Agricultural & Mining Engineering; Electrical & Computer Engineering; Mechanical, Chemical & Industrial Engineering; and Architecture, Allied Sciences & Humanities.

The catalogue covers civil, mining, agricultural, electrical, mechanical, industrial, chemical, mechatronics and computer systems engineering, along with computer science and a five-year Bachelor of Architecture. Most engineering departments offer the full progression from BSc through MSc to PhD. Agricultural engineering is a notable distinction — few Pakistani engineering universities offer it, and it is directly relevant to a province where agriculture remains economically central.

This university offers 9 engineering programmes. PEC accreditation is granted to a specific programme at a specific university — a degree accredited elsewhere is not automatically accredited here — so confirm the status of your chosen programme directly with the Pakistan Engineering Council before enrolling.

History

The institution began in 1952 as a constituent engineering college of the University of Peshawar. In 1980 it was granted its own charter as an independent engineering university. It operated as the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology until 2010, when the province was renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the university’s name changed accordingly — which is why older references and documents still carry the NWFP designation.

Campuses

Unusually among Pakistani engineering universities, UET Peshawar operates a deliberately distributed campus network intended to widen access to professional education across the province rather than concentrating it in the provincial capital. Alongside the main Peshawar campus, it runs campuses at Abbottabad, Bannu, Jalozai, Nowshera, Kohat and Mardan.

The Bannu campus, for example, was established specifically to increase access to engineering education in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Programme availability differs substantially between campuses — several disciplines run only at Peshawar — so confirm with the specific campus before applying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is University of Engineering & Technology recognized by HEC?

Yes. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan lists University of Engineering & Technology as a recognised institution, which means its degrees can be attested by the HEC and are accepted for further study and public-sector employment. Recognition applies to the institution; individual programmes may additionally require accreditation from a professional council.

Is University of Engineering & Technology private or government?

University of Engineering & Technology is a public-sector institution. Public institutions generally charge lower fees than private ones because they receive government funding, and admission is correspondingly more competitive on merit.

What entry test is required for admission to University of Engineering & Technology?

Engineering admission normally requires an entry test — the ECAT in Punjab, an ETEA test in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, or an institutional test elsewhere — alongside HSSC pre-engineering results. Confirm the current requirement on the institution's own admissions page, since criteria and closing dates change each cycle.

Does HEC recognition mean every programme at University of Engineering & Technology is accredited?

No. HEC recognition confirms the institution is chartered to award degrees. Individual programmes in regulated fields need separate accreditation — the Pakistan Engineering Council for engineering, PMDC for medicine and dentistry, the Pakistan Bar Council for law, NCEAC for computing. A programme can sit inside a recognised institution without holding that professional accreditation, so check the specific programme before enrolling.

Where is University of Engineering & Technology located?

University of Engineering & Technology is located in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Full address and contact details are listed above; the official website is uetpeshawar.edu.pk.
