About
The University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila is a public engineering university in Punjab offering engineering, engineering technology and computing programmes from bachelor’s through doctoral level.
Degree Programs
UET Taxila offers BSc engineering degrees in civil, environmental, computer, electrical, electronics, mechanical, industrial, software, telecommunication and mechatronics engineering, alongside computer science.
It also runs Bachelor of Engineering Technology programmes — a distinct four-year qualification stream oriented toward applied and technology-focused practice rather than design engineering. These include biomedical, cyber security and software engineering technology. Prospective students should understand that engineering technology degrees and engineering degrees are treated differently by the Pakistan Engineering Council, so confirm the registration implications before choosing between them.
Postgraduate provision is extensive, with MSc programmes across the engineering disciplines including specialised civil tracks in structural, geotechnical, transportation and water resources engineering, plus energy engineering, engineering management, metallurgy and materials, applied physics, mathematics and computer science. Doctoral programmes run in civil, computer, electrical, electronics, mechanical and telecommunication engineering and computer science.
This university offers 12 engineering programmes. PEC accreditation is granted to a specific programme at a specific university — a degree accredited elsewhere is not automatically accredited here — so confirm the status of your chosen programme directly with the Pakistan Engineering Council before enrolling.

History
The institution was established in 1975 as the University College of Engineering, Taxila — a campus of UET Lahore created to absorb rapidly rising engineering enrolment. It began operating at Sahiwal, moved to its permanent Taxila site in 1978, and was granted its own charter as an independent university in 1993.
Its location is worth noting: Taxila sits beside one of South Asia’s most significant archaeological landscapes, and the university lies within the Rawalpindi-Islamabad industrial and academic corridor, which shapes both its student catchment and its industry links.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila recognized by HEC?
Yes. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan lists University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila as a recognised institution, which means its degrees can be attested by the HEC and are accepted for further study and public-sector employment. Recognition applies to the institution; individual programmes may additionally require accreditation from a professional council.
Is University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila private or government?
University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila is a public-sector institution. Public institutions generally charge lower fees than private ones because they receive government funding, and admission is correspondingly more competitive on merit.
What entry test is required for admission to University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila?
Engineering admission normally requires an entry test — the ECAT in Punjab, an ETEA test in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, or an institutional test elsewhere — alongside HSSC pre-engineering results. Confirm the current requirement on the institution's own admissions page, since criteria and closing dates change each cycle.
Does HEC recognition mean every programme at University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila is accredited?
No. HEC recognition confirms the institution is chartered to award degrees. Individual programmes in regulated fields need separate accreditation — the Pakistan Engineering Council for engineering, PMDC for medicine and dentistry, the Pakistan Bar Council for law, NCEAC for computing. A programme can sit inside a recognised institution without holding that professional accreditation, so check the specific programme before enrolling.
Where is University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila located?
