BS Microbiology is a four-year undergraduate degree studying microorganisms — bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites — and their roles in disease, industry, agriculture and the environment.
What You’ll Study
Coursework covers general and systematic bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology, immunology, medical and clinical microbiology, industrial and food microbiology, environmental microbiology, and molecular techniques, with heavy emphasis on sterile technique and laboratory practice.
Career Scope in Pakistan
Clinical and diagnostic laboratories are the largest employer — hospital microbiology, pathology labs and diagnostic chains all need microbiologists. Other destinations include pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality control, where sterility testing and microbial limits work is a regulatory requirement, food and beverage safety and quality assurance, water testing, agricultural and veterinary laboratories, and research institutes.
Public health and infectious disease work is a further path, through government health departments and organisations working on disease surveillance and control — an area of continuing importance given Pakistan’s infectious disease burden. Laboratory competence is the decisive employability factor at bachelor’s level; research and academic roles require postgraduate qualification.
Admission Requirements
Intermediate (FSc/ICS) or an equivalent qualification in a relevant group, plus the admission or aptitude test used by the university concerned. Merit is normally calculated from academic record and test score. Check each university’s admissions page for the current cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
What jobs can I get with a Microbiology degree in Pakistan?
Clinical and diagnostic laboratories are the largest employer, alongside pharmaceutical quality control and sterility testing, food and beverage safety, water testing, agricultural and veterinary laboratories, public health and disease surveillance, and research.
Is Microbiology a good degree in Pakistan?
It has clearer laboratory-based employment routes than several other biological sciences, particularly in diagnostics and pharmaceutical quality control where microbiological testing is a regulatory requirement. Practical laboratory competence is the decisive factor for hiring.
