BS Sociology is a four-year undergraduate degree studying society and social behaviour — how institutions, inequality, culture and social change operate, and how to investigate them systematically.
What You’ll Study
Coursework covers sociological theory, social research methods including both survey and qualitative techniques, social statistics, and substantive fields such as gender, urban sociology, rural development, family, religion, crime and deviance, and social stratification, usually with a final-year research project.
Career Scope in Pakistan
The development sector is the largest employer, hiring sociology graduates for social research, monitoring and evaluation, baseline and impact studies, and community programme design. Pakistan’s substantial donor-funded development portfolio sustains this demand.
Other destinations include public policy research and think tanks, market and consumer research, human resources and organisational roles, journalism, government social sector departments, and academia. Criminology and social justice work is a smaller additional route.
The decisive factor for employability is research capability — graduates who can design a study, run fieldwork, handle data and write findings credibly are hired; those with theory alone are not. Building quantitative skills alongside qualitative methods widens options considerably.
Admission Requirements
Intermediate or an equivalent qualification, plus the admission or aptitude test used by the university concerned. Social science programmes normally weight English proficiency and analytical writing. Check each university’s admissions page for the current cycle.
