BS Information Technology (BSIT) is a four-year undergraduate degree focused on the applied side of computing — building, deploying and managing systems, networks, databases and applications that organisations actually run on.
IT vs. Computer Science
Computer Science leans toward theory, algorithms and the science of computation; Information Technology leans toward application — systems administration, networking, databases, web and mobile development, and IT infrastructure. In practice the job markets overlap heavily, and BSIT graduates compete for most of the same software roles as BSCS graduates. The distinction matters more for research and postgraduate pathways, where a CS background is usually expected, than for industry hiring.
What You’ll Study
Coursework covers programming and data structures, database systems, computer networks and network administration, operating systems, web and mobile application development, systems analysis and design, information security fundamentals, and IT project management, typically with a final-year project.
Career Scope & Salary in Pakistan
Pakistan’s IT sector — with exports exceeding $3.2 billion in FY 2025-26 and over 17,000 registered IT and ITeS companies — is the primary destination. Graduates work in software development, web and mobile development, database administration, network and systems administration, IT support and infrastructure, quality assurance, and increasingly cloud and DevOps roles.
Entry-level developer salaries commonly fall in the PKR 50,000-120,000 per month range, rising to PKR 200,000-400,000 with three to five years of experience for strong developers, according to public salary platforms. Remote and freelance work for international clients is a realistic route to higher, dollar-denominated income. As with computer science, specialisation — cloud, security, data — pays better than staying a generalist.
Admission Requirements
Intermediate (FSc/ICS) or an equivalent qualification in a relevant group, plus the admission or aptitude test used by the university concerned. Merit is normally calculated from academic record and test score. Check each university’s admissions page for the current cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between BSIT and BSCS?
Computer Science emphasises theory, algorithms and the science of computation; Information Technology emphasises applied systems, networks, databases and deployment. The job markets overlap heavily for industry roles, though CS is usually expected for research and postgraduate pathways.
Can BSIT graduates get software development jobs in Pakistan?
Yes — BSIT includes substantial programming, databases and application development coursework, and graduates compete for most of the same development roles as computer science graduates. Entry-level developer salaries commonly run PKR 50,000-120,000 per month.
