Quick Facts

|---|---|
| Discipline | Physics, Sciences |
| Offered By | 90 universities in our directory |
| Typical Duration | 4 years |
BS Physics is a four-year undergraduate degree studying the fundamental laws governing matter and energy, from subatomic particles to cosmological scales. Beyond physics itself, the degree is valued for the quantitative and problem-solving training it provides, which transfers well into data, finance, engineering and computing roles.
What You’ll Study
Programmes typically run around 130 credit hours. Core coursework covers classical mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, and mathematical methods for physics, alongside experimental laboratory work and computational physics. Later electives allow specialisation toward condensed matter, particle physics, photonics, astrophysics or computational modelling, usually with a final-year project.
Career Scope in Pakistan
Physics graduates enter research organisations, the nuclear and energy sectors, telecommunications, electronics and optics industries, and teaching. Pakistan has an established institutional base for physics research, and PAEC-affiliated organisations, national laboratories and research-active universities are significant employers for postgraduate-qualified physicists.
A growing share of physics graduates also move into data science, quantitative analysis and software roles, where strong mathematical modelling and programming skills are directly transferable and often better paid than entry-level laboratory positions. As with the other pure sciences, research and academic careers require an MS or PhD.
Admission Requirements
Intermediate (FSc/ICS) or A-Levels with the relevant science subjects, plus the admission test used by the university you are applying to — LUMS runs its own SAT-style paper-based test and also accepts SAT scores, while other universities use NET, NAT or their own entry tests. Check each university’s admissions page for the current cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the scope of BS Physics in Pakistan?
Graduates work in research organisations, the nuclear and energy sectors, telecommunications, electronics and optics, and teaching. Many also move into data science and quantitative analysis roles, where the degree's mathematical and computational training transfers directly.
Can a Physics graduate work in data science?
Yes — this is an increasingly common path. Physics degrees build strong mathematical modelling, statistics and programming skills, which map closely onto data science and quantitative analysis work.
