About
The University of Lahore (UOL) is one of Pakistan’s largest private universities, offering a broad spread of disciplines from medicine and dentistry through engineering, business, sciences, arts and social sciences. It operates a multi-campus network with a student body of roughly 22,000.
Degree Programs and Fee Structure
Teaching is organised into eleven faculties spanning medicine and dentistry, allied health sciences, pharmacy, engineering and technology, computer science and information technology, business and management, law, arts and social sciences, and natural sciences. The university offers programmes at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level across these areas.
As a general university with a substantial health sciences component, UOL differs in character from Pakistan’s specialist private institutions — its medical, dental and allied health provision sits alongside conventional engineering, business and social science faculties on the same campus network.

Admissions
Admission requirements vary considerably by faculty. Medical and dental programmes admit through the national MDCAT under PM&DC rules, engineering programmes typically require an engineering entry test, and other faculties run their own admission tests or merit-based selection. Check the university’s admissions pages for the current cycle, deadlines and fee structure.
History
The university was founded in 1999 at collegiate level under the Ibadat Educational Trust, and was granted degree-awarding status by the Government of Punjab in October 2002. It expanded quickly from that base into one of the larger private-sector general universities in the country.
Recognition and Rankings
The university is recognised by the Higher Education Commission and holds HEC’s W4 category. It appears in the QS World University Rankings 2027 in the 1001-1200 band.
Applicants to professional programmes should note that recognition by the relevant regulator matters separately from HEC recognition — medical and dental programmes require Pakistan Medical & Dental Council recognition, pharmacy programmes require Pharmacy Council recognition, and engineering programmes require Pakistan Engineering Council accreditation. Confirm the current status of a specific programme with the relevant council before enrolling.

Campuses

Frequently Asked Questions
Is University of Lahore recognized by HEC?
Yes. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan lists University of Lahore as a recognised institution, which means its degrees can be attested by the HEC and are accepted for further study and public-sector employment. Recognition applies to the institution; individual programmes may additionally require accreditation from a professional council.
Is University of Lahore private or government?
University of Lahore is a private-sector institution. Private institutions set their own fee schedules rather than following a government scale, so ask for the complete per-semester cost across the full degree rather than only the first instalment.
What entry test is required for admission to University of Lahore?
Requirements vary by programme. Most undergraduate intakes are based on HSSC or an equivalent qualification, and many institutions add their own entry test or interview. Confirm the current requirement on the institution's own admissions page, since criteria and closing dates change each cycle.
Does HEC recognition mean every programme at University of Lahore is accredited?
No. HEC recognition confirms the institution is chartered to award degrees. Individual programmes in regulated fields need separate accreditation — the Pakistan Engineering Council for engineering, PMDC for medicine and dentistry, the Pakistan Bar Council for law, NCEAC for computing. A programme can sit inside a recognised institution without holding that professional accreditation, so check the specific programme before enrolling.
Where is University of Lahore located?
University of Lahore is located in Lahore, Punjab. Full address and contact details are listed above; the official website is uol.edu.pk.
